YOUTH CLASSES
Baby Brush Strokes
Boys & Girls ages 2-3 years old
Tues 9am-10am & Wed 9:30am-10:30am, Parent/Child, $132 for 6 weeks
Baby Brush Strokes is an art program for parents or caregivers with children ages 2-3 years old. In this class, you will have the opportunity to create art projects that capture precious moments in this early stage of development, while simultaneously nurturing your child’s fine motor skills, special awareness, and sense of color and texture. Projects can include growth charts, finger painting, hand and foot molds, silhouettes and more. Also, participate in photo shoots to practice lighting and photo editing to bring professional techniques to your personal family photography.
Classes meet once a week and all projects that are started in class can be continued at home. Parent participation is required. Non-toxic materials only.
Mini Masters
Boys & Girls ages 3-5 years old

Mini Masters is an art program for parents or caregivers with children ages 3-5 years old. Children learn to express themselves beyond words using a diverse range of art techniques, including painting, print making, design, and sculpture. Materials are tactile in nature with a focus on discerning texture, color, and shape. Projects are informed by the curriculum of Friedrich Frobel, who laid the foundation for modern day kindergarten. The program is an immersive, hands-on experience that nurtures curiosity and provides the building blocks for a child’s imagination.
Classes meet once a week and all projects that are started in class can be continued at home. Parent participation is required. Non-toxic materials only.

This class focuses on the core elements of artistic expression including how to draw and paint in a variety of mediums, drawing basic shapes, positive and negative space, contour and measurement, all while learning about various artists throughout history. This class is sure to foster any young artist’s curiosity and enthusiasm. Artistic Development is the perfect place to start a portfolio or break new ground in artistic study. Projects and instruction are tailored to individual levels of experience and skill.

Classical drawing and painting, a staple of the Mitchell School curriculum, serves as a gateway to the fundamental skills of artistic craftsmanship for the curious student, whether the student is a beginner, advanced or somewhere in between. Students learn how to break down the foundational aspects of drawing into its most essential elements, discovering how a simple sketch provides the first step towards all great works of art. Through collaborative work, students explore the underlying design of an individual masterpiece, thus revealing a deeper truth about the artist and art itself. As the longest running course in Mitchell School history, this class is continually refreshed to ensure curriculum is consistently relevant and always original. Mediums include, charcoal, graphite, sanguine, pen and ink, and watercolor.
