FALL/Winter 2020/2021 ART CLASSES

YOUTH CLASSES

Elementary School
Boys & Girls ages 6-9 years old
Wednesday 4:15pm-5:15pm (in person only)
Saturday 10am-11am (virtual via Zoom only)
Saturday 11am-12pm (in person only)
Cost - $250 for 10 weeks (includes materials for in person classes)

This is an art program for children ages 6-9 years old. The class focuses on the core elements of artistic expression including how to draw and paint in a variety of mediums, while also learning about various artists throughout history. Students explore artistic concepts such as positive and negative space, contour, and measurement, while learning to draw geometric shapes, animals, and flowers, among other subjects. This class is sure to foster any young artist’s curiosity and enthusiasm.
Classes meet once a week and all projects that are started in class can be continued at home. Non-toxic materials only.
Middle School
Boys & Girls grades 5-8
Monday 4:15pm-6pm (in person and virtual via Zoom)
Thursday 4:15pm-6pm

$330 for 10 weeks (includes materials for in person classes)
A staple of the Mitchell School of Fine Arts curriculum, this class provides a classic approach to learning the fundamentals of artistic tradition for young, developing artists. This class focuses on the core elements of artistic expression including how to draw and paint in a variety of mediums, drawing basic shapes, positive and negative space, contour and measurement, all while learning about various artists throughout history. This class is sure to foster any young artist’s curiosity and enthusiasm. Artistic Development is the perfect place to start a portfolio or break new ground in artistic study. Projects and instruction are tailored to individual levels of experience and skill.
Classes meet once a week; discounts are offered for multiple registrations. For students of all levels of experience.
High School
Boys & Girls grades 9-12
Monday 6pm-8pm (in person only)

Cost - $340 for 10 weeks (includes materials for in person classes)

Students explore both traditional and contemporary concepts using a range of mediums and a variety of subject matter including animals, portraiture, still life, master copies, and landscape.  Our teaching methods are derived from classical and modern concepts that equip artists of all levels of experience with the skills, passion, and confidence to elevate their work.  
Classes meet once a week; discounts are offered for multiple registrations. For students of all levels of experience.
Wednesday Art Enrichment Camp (half or full day)
Boys & Girls grades 5-12
Wednesday 10am-12pm (in person only), Cost - $330 for 10 weeks (includes materials)

Wednesday 10am-3pm (in person only, bring lunch) - Cost $750 for 10 weeks (includes materials)

Young artists use their imagination as they develop art skills, learn new techniques and expand artistic knowledge. Students will have the opportunity to produce original works of art while building their portfolio. Full day class requires you to bring a lunch. 
Classes meet once a week; discounts are offered for multiple registrations. For students of all levels of experience.

ADULT CLASSES

Introduction of Drawing and Oil Painting
Tuesday 6pm-8:30pm (in person only)
​Cost - $390 for 10 weeks

Join Trevor Twist for this evening class focused on the foundational elements of artistic expression. Broken down into two sections, this class begins with a foundational drawing lesson followed by personalized instruction focused on the development of individual projects. Students are welcome to consult Trevor on their subject matter as well as how to approach rendering.
Watercolor and Drawing
Tuesday 1pm-3:30pm (in person only)
​Cost - $390 for 10 weeks

The class provides an open creative session with an emphasis on watercolor and drawing. Students receive personalized instruction tailored to their individual work, while also learning from class demonstrations in a range of mediums. This is a great atmosphere to build a personal portfolio while improving artistic versatility and expression.
Classical Drawing & Painting
Thursday 9:30am-12pm (virtual via Zoom only)
Cost - $390 for 10 weeks

Classical drawing and painting, a staple of the Mitchell School curriculum, serves as a gateway to the fundamental skills of artistic craftsmanship for the curious student, whether the student is a beginner, advanced or somewhere in between. Students learn how to break down the foundational aspects of drawing into its most essential elements, discovering how a simple sketch provides the first step towards all great works of art. Through collaborative work, students explore the underlying design of an individual masterpiece, thus revealing a deeper truth about the artist and art itself. As the longest running course in Mitchell School history, this class is continually refreshed to ensure curriculum is consistently relevant and always original. Mediums include, charcoal, graphite, sanguine, pen and ink, and watercolor.

PRIVATE LESSONS

Private lessons are for all ages and are an opportunity for one on one instruction that is personalized and flexible in time. These lessons are ideal for students that have unique artistic needs or simply prefer a private setting. Skill level ranges from beginner to advanced. These lessons range from a one-time consultation to long term collaboration, from private collecting to exhibition preparation. Techniques include, but are not limited to, drawing, watercolor, oil painting, portraits, landscapes, florals and pastels.
