Our History & Mission
Originally founded in 1965 by Elizabeth Byrd Mitchell, Mitchell School of Fine Arts is a regional arts organization dedicated to enriching the greater Baltimore community through fine arts education. Our mission is to promote the artistic literacy of youths and adults. We believe that everyone deserves to develop a richer, more meaningful life by engaging with the cultural language of the visual arts.
We offer a wide range of instruction on the fundamental elements of visual expression through many mediums, such as, watercolor, oil painting, pastels, charcoal, graphite, sanguine, and many more! We welcome all experience levels and hope, through our engagement with the community, to promote an artistic approach to life both in and out of the studio.

"Art is universal and is for everyone. Learning to draw and paint leads to a richer, more fulfilling engagement with the world around us. It's not ever an issue of natural born talent; every individual has the potential to become proficient in artistic expression and visual creativity. If you have the desire to learn how art is made and want to develop an artistic approach to life, the Mitchell School's unique, open approach to artistic education can give you the skills and confidence you need to express yourself in a visual medium and engage with the world in a creative way."

Testimonials
"Trevor is so adept at explaining things so that anyone can understand. He is incredibly knowledgeable not only of art history and master artists, but also of the specific techniques they used to create their masterpieces. I have learned so much, even after an art school education. He fills in the pieces that were missing in my education."
"Trevor's Beginning Drawing class provides beginner & accomplished artists with a new perspective on how to structure a drawing so that the end results are accurate. In just eight weeks, my drawings have improved dramatically. The course provides the student with new ways of seeing objects, which makes it more fun and interesting to draw from. Best of all, Trevor puts everything in the context of how great artists worked."
"Trevor was an excellent instructor! I came into class not having drawn for many years with many holes in the basics. Trevor has the technical knowledge and the interpersonal intuition to teach even the most basic student drawing skills they can use throughout life. I attended one semester of art school & didn't receive any of the instruction that I have received from this class. Classes are well thought out, planned, and cater to student needs. A highly recommended course!"
