For the Mitchell School of Fine Arts, artistic literacy is an intrinsic part of life’s curriculum. Our goal is to foster a lasting creative approach to life in and outside the studio by sharing our passion for the foundational elements of artistic expression. We are committed to enriching the lives and communities of the greater Baltimore area by cultivating our students’ knowledge, skill and enthusiasm for expressing themselves through traditional visual forms.

Originally established in 1965 by Elizabeth Byrd Mitchell, Mitchell School of Fine Arts provides professional fine art instruction for beginners to advanced students in the tradition of the European Masters. Our small classes provide students with a high degree of personal attention, and the experienced faculty teaches creative problem solving skills in a supportive and encouraging environment. The convenient location and flexible class schedule make creating art possible for even the busiest family.

Meet MSFA Director, Trevor Twist, and hear what makes our school so special!
"Art is universal & is for everyone! Learning to draw and paint has an impact on one’s life that goes beyond description. You do not need any experience, you have been born with the gift.
Whether you're a child of 6, 10, or 16, or an adult of 30, 60, or 90; if you have the desire to learn how art is made and want that artistic force working in your life, the Mitchell School can help make this dream a reality.
Through fundamental drawing skills and personal artistic exploration, EVERY student is given the opportunity to envision and share their personal vision."
